about maria

Since I can remember, I’ve been driven to record and make meaning from the steady stream of experiences we call “life.”  I’m reading, writing, or thinking about reading and writing all. the. time.

I’m a haphazard mother-of-three, an experience that gives me stronger voice and desire in my writing. My children–twin boys, Luke and Taj, and their younger sister, Sola–make frequent appearances in my writing and are the driving force behind my first collection of essays on motherhood.

I’m lucky to be married to a smart, fun, kind guy named Chris. He’s a computer geek (not to be confused with a nerd) who brings home books with titles like The Visual Display of Quantitative Information. We met and lived in Lawrence, Kansas for many years and then moved to Palo Alto, California. It’s different.

I geek out myself about a lot of things, hence the ambiguous nature of my blogging. Right now, I’m into minimalist running, yoga, crossfit, zen meditation, “Food Matters” cooking, mid-century modern design, and my “eclectic modern” decorating style. I’m very much into natural, homemade, free-range living, or whatever you want to call it.

I’m an advocate for the connection between wellness and mental health. I’ve experienced crippling depression throughout my life and I don’t make it a secret. I currently take anti-depressants and see a therapist. Quality of life. It’s an important thing to keep in mind.

I like to be serious. I like to have fun.

  1. Hello, I just stumbled upon this blog (and now following). I also have twin boys, one of whom is named Luke. So I guess the point of this comment is to say that you have good taste? 🙂

    • Lara, thanks so much for stumbling! I’d also like to compliment you on YOUR good taste. Hoping to hear more in the future. How old are your twins? (Trying to figure out if you’ve regained your sanity, yet…)
